HHS Inspector General report lists steps not taken to save federal healthcare costs

by Ben Vernia | March 13th, 2010

The Inspector General of HHS begins its March 11 report on “unimplemented recommendations” as follows:

We are pleased to present the Compendium of Unimplemented Office of Inspector General Recommendations (Compendium).

It’s good that someone has a sense of humor in the Office of Inspector General. Are they really pleased to present nearly two hundred pages of cost savings suggestions that the administration of HHS continues to ignore? I think not.

Most HHS-OIG reports are interesting mostly to healthcare and white collar wonks. This one is better-written than most, and certainly comes at a fortuitous time, with health reform on the agenda in Congress and with the Obama Administration.
