In the shadow of news of increasing danger to US forces and election corruption charges, the Special IG for Iraq, and the IGs for DOD, State and the Agency for International Development testified before the House Government Oversight and Reform Committee’s Subcommittee on National Security and Foreign Affairs on September 9, regarding oversight of operations in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
The agencies presented a joint comprehensive plan for the region, including oversight of US progress toward security, development, and governance goals, as well as over contracting integrity.
DOD IG Gordon S. Heddell testified that DOD OIG has 21 public corruption investigations, 14 procurement fraud cases, and 8 involving theft and technology protection (including export control violations), relating to Afghanistan and Pakistan.
