The US Attorney for the Northern District of Alabama has announced plea agreements by two claims representatives of UnitedHealthcare Inc. to charges that, using the identities of patients enrolled in UHC flexible spending account programs and a Federal employee (FEHBP) prescription drug plan, they created counterfeit prescriptions, obtained and then sold controlled substances. The charges include healthcare fraud, violations of HIPAA’s disclosure laws, and identity theft.
